A tragic love story of actress Sumako and a theatre director torn between art and family.
The film is a dramatic work based on the life of the famous Japanese actress Sumako Matsui. The story is about the complicated love affair between director Shimamura, who is trying to bring Western theater art to Japan, and the talented actress Sumako. Their relationship is not accepted by society, as a result of which the director leaves his family and the theater team faces a crisis. At the same time, Sumako achieves great success on stage, but tragedies in her personal life derail her. The film deeply reveals the conflict between art, love and sacrifice, and shows a dramatic depiction of human emotions.
