A lone strategist defends a city against a massive invading army using wit and courage.

The events take place during the Warring States period of ancient China. The small state of Liang is attacked by a powerful Zhao army of hundreds of thousands of soldiers. The city, left in a desperate situation, asks for help from the school of martial arts. Only one warrior and strategist, Ge Li, comes to the rescue. Using his intelligence, military tactics, and engineering skills, he organizes a defense against a numerically superior enemy. Ge Li becomes not only the defender of the city, but also a symbol of hope for the people. The film tells the story of the cruelty of war, leadership, sacrifice, and human values, and is distinguished by large-scale battle scenes.
