A simple gardener is mistaken for a brilliant political and economic thinker.

A simple and isolated gardener named Chance spends his entire life in the house of his wealthy master. He knows almost nothing about the outside world and his main source of knowledge is television. After his master dies, Chance begins his first independent life. By chance, he meets the family of influential businessman Benjamin Rand. His simple thoughts about gardening are interpreted by those around him as a profound economic and political philosophy. As a result, Chance finds himself in the circle of the most powerful people in the country. The film criticizes society's habit of judging people based on appearance and stereotypes through sharp satire.
