Years later, he becomes a powerful warrior and escapes from slavery, determined to take revenge on those responsible for destroying his tribe. He eventually finds his sworn enemy, the Man-Eater, and kills him before continuing his journey. Volkodav later arrives in Galirad, where Princess Elen asks him to become her protector. She is expected to marry the young warrior Vinitar as part of a political arrangement, and Wolfhound accompanies her on the dangerous journey to her future husband's lands. Along the way, he discovers that the marriage is connected to a much darker plan involving ancient forces and Elen's blood. Volkodav must protect the princess while confronting enemies from his past.
