Postwar Tokyo neighbors face love, hardship and a child who changes their lives forever.

The film tells the story of ordinary people living in the poor Senju district of post-war Tokyo. The family of Ryukichi and Hiroko Ogata lives in a cramped and modest house. Their relationship with their neighbors Senko and Kenzo develops through everyday life events. One day, a mysterious baby appears, related to Hiroko's first husband, who disappeared during the war, and changes the lives of all the characters. The film explores the themes of human relationships, the consequences of war, compassion and hope.
