A German shepherd saves a young Lakota boy, and an unlikely friendship grows between them.
Set in Montana in 1880, the film follows Jacob Precht, a German shepherd known as Alaska, who is searching for a place to spend the winter with his flock of sheep. He encounters a young Lakota boy named Tschetan, who has been accused of cattle theft and is about to be lynched. Alaska saves the boy and takes him in as a helper, but Tschetan refuses to trust him or follow his orders. As they spend more time together, their relationship gradually changes and an unexpected friendship begins to develop. Their new bond is soon tested by Ben Johnson, a ruthless rancher determined to drive Alaska and his flock away. The two must stand together against injustice and hostility. The film explores trust, friendship, freedom and the difficulties of life on the American frontier.
