A lonely war veteran pretends to be an orphaned girl’s father and finds a new purpose.
Kuzma Iordanov is a lonely former front-line soldier whose life has fallen apart after the war. Having lost his wife, he turns to alcohol and survives on occasional jobs, gradually losing his sense of purpose. His life changes when he learns about Natasha, a young woman who was orphaned during the war. In a desperate attempt to escape his loneliness and find someone who might need him, Kuzma decides to pretend that he is Natasha’s father. What begins as a dishonest plan gradually becomes something much more meaningful. Meeting Natasha forces Kuzma to take responsibility for another person and confront the emptiness of his own life. Their developing relationship gives him a chance to recover his sense of dignity, affection and belonging. The film is a quiet human drama about loneliness, family, compassion, emotional recovery and the possibility of finding a new purpose after personal tragedy.
