A Hollywood director becomes obsessed with hunting an elephant while filming in Africa.
White Hunter, Black Heart is a 1990 adventure drama about a hard-living Hollywood director, John Wilson, who travels to Africa in the 1950s to film his next movie. Obsessed with hunting a particular elephant, Wilson neglects the actual movie production and risks the morale and careers of his crew. His fixation on the hunt — rooted in personal ambition and ego — creates tension with his screenwriter Pete Verrill and others. Based loosely on real experiences during the making of The African Queen, the film explores obsession, artistic pride, and moral conflict against the backdrop of filmmaking and African landscapes.
