Two rival caravans — led by elder Tinle and young Karma — compete across the treacherous trails of the Himalayas

In the high-altitude village of Dolpo in Nepal, elder chieftain Tinle blames young Karma for his son's death and refuses to let him lead the salt caravan. Karma departs early with his own group; Tinle follows with a few elders, his daughter-in-law and grandson. The two caravans compete across treacherous mountain trails. Directed by French photographer Éric Valli, this became Nepal's first Oscar-nominated film, grossing $40 million worldwide
