A privileged young man becomes the head of a remote village and gradually learns to understand its residents.

Azamat is a wealthy young man who grew up in the city, studied in the United States and became accustomed to a comfortable lifestyle. His influential father expects to help him build a successful career, but Azamat's plans suddenly change when he is sent to work as the akim, or local head, of the remote village of Taza-Bulak. Far from the conveniences of the city, he encounters unreliable electricity, limited communication and everyday problems affecting the local residents. At first, Azamat sees his appointment as an unwanted obstacle and hopes to return to the city as soon as possible. As he spends more time in the village, however, he begins meeting its residents, learning about their difficulties and taking his responsibilities more seriously. His experience gradually changes his attitude toward rural life and the people he has been appointed to serve.
