Two Earthmen land on a strange planet and struggle to find their way home.
Foreman Vladimir Mashkov is on an ordinary trip to a grocery store when a strange encounter unexpectedly sends him and a young student named Gedevan to another planet. They find themselves on Pluke, a distant desert world in the Kin-dza-dza galaxy, where society is governed by bizarre customs, rigid social divisions and a strange obsession with status and wealth. Desperate to return to Earth, the two travelers must navigate this unfamiliar world and deal with its unusual inhabitants. Their journey becomes a series of absurd, humorous and sometimes dangerous encounters. Beneath the science-fiction adventure, the film offers a sharp satire of society, inequality, money, power and human behavior, using the strange civilization of Pluke to reflect on problems that exist much closer to home.
