A young man becomes a gang boss and helps an elderly woman keep her dignity.

In 1930s Hong Kong, a villager named Charlie accidentally becomes the leader of a local gang. His life changes dramatically when he buys a lucky rose from an old woman. Charlie gains a reputation in the criminal world, but remains a pure person at heart. Together with Lumin, a nightclub singer, he decides to help a struggling Mrs. Kao. Mrs. Kao has presented herself to her daughter as a rich and respected woman, and the truth is in danger of being revealed. Charlie and his friends devise an intricate plan to save the woman's reputation. The film successfully combines comedy, romance, and action scenes.
