A cheerful man tries to find a wife for his shy, unmarried cousin.
Gena travels to Moscow to buy furniture, but after seeing that his cousin Pavel is still unmarried in his forties, he decides to help him find a wife. Outgoing and confident, Gena believes he has developed a simple method for meeting women. He gives Pavel a more fashionable look and takes him around Moscow, encouraging him to approach women with the strange question, “Where is the nofelet?” The unusual word is actually a playful reversal of the Russian word for “telephone” and serves as an excuse to start a conversation. Pavel’s attempts to meet women lead to a series of comic situations. Eventually, however, he becomes tired of relying on Gena’s methods and begins taking control of his own romantic life.
