A wealthy boy chooses an unemployed journalist as his “toy,” but their strange relationship becomes a genuine friendship.
Unemployed journalist François Perrin accepts a job connected to the wealthy newspaper magnate Pierre Rambal-Cochet. His life takes an unexpected turn when the magnate’s spoiled young son, Éric, sees François in a toy store and decides that he wants him as his personal “toy.” Afraid of losing his job, François reluctantly agrees to play along with the boy’s increasingly demanding games. At first, he is treated almost like another expensive possession in the child’s privileged world. However, their unusual relationship gradually develops into a genuine friendship. Behind its comic situations, the film explores wealth, power, dignity and the emotional distance between parents and children. François discovers that Éric’s demanding behavior hides a deep need for attention and affection, while the boy begins to see the man he once treated as a toy as someone he genuinely cares about.
