Bobby Fischer faces Boris Spassky in a legendary Cold War chess battle.
Bobby Fischer is a brilliant American chess prodigy whose extraordinary talent takes him to the highest level of international chess. During the Cold War, his victories become more than sporting achievements, turning him into a symbol of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. In 1972, Fischer faces reigning world champion Boris Spassky in the legendary World Chess Championship match in Reykjavík, Iceland. Yet reaching the championship is only part of his struggle. Fischer must deal with enormous pressure, personal fears and an increasingly difficult relationship with those around him. The film follows his rise through the chess world and the intense preparation for his historic confrontation with Spassky, presenting the match as both a battle of strategic brilliance and a psychological test between two exceptional players.
