A Norman knight's forbidden love clashes with duty, tradition and power, leading to rebellion and war.
In 11th-century Normandy, Duke William sends the Norman knight Chrysagon to govern a remote territory and build a defensive fortress against Frisian raiders. Chrysagon arrives with his men and becomes responsible for protecting a small local settlement. His mission becomes complicated when he falls in love with Bronwyn, the betrothed of the local chieftain’s son. Their relationship conflicts with local traditions and Chrysagon’s own responsibilities as a knight and ruler. Instead of releasing Bronwyn, Chrysagon chooses to keep her, provoking anger among the villagers and creating tension within his own forces. As distrust and resentment grow, the personal conflict develops into a much larger struggle involving betrayal, rebellion and war.
