In 476 AD, the Roman Empire is collapsing, and twelve-year-old Emperor Romulus Augustus is imprisoned on the island of Capri. With the help of his mentor and the legionnaire Aurelius, he escapes and journeys to Britain in search of the last legion still loyal to Rome.
