Set in 1958, the film follows the death of the president of the large Hudsucker company. The company's board of directors appoints Norville Barnes, a simple post office employee, as president in order to artificially lower the value of the company's shares. According to their plan, Norville should have failed. However, his simple but unusual ideas unexpectedly bring great success. At the same time, journalist Amy Archer tries to expose the conspiracy within the company. The film satirically depicts the themes of the business world, corporate greed, and the American dream, and is distinguished by the Coen brothers' unique visual style.
