A boy befriends an escaped circus elephant and nurses him back to health.

An Elephant Lost is a 1984 Soviet family film about a young boy named Yegor, who discovers a frightened elephant named Chandu after it escapes a circus fire. Injured and alone in the wilderness, the elephant is found by Yegor — the son of a forester — who lovingly nurses it back to health. As they form a deep friendship, Yegor cares for the giant creature, sheltering it and sharing food, even as questions arise about where Chandu came from and whether they will have to part. The film highlights themes of compassion, the bond between humans and animals, and the innocence of childhood as they navigate dangers and the eventual fate of the elephant.
